A comprehensive Level 2 Fire Safety and Fire Marshal course for anyone with fire safety responsibilities, and for staff appointed as fire marshals or wardens — in offices, shops, warehouses, factories, care, hospitality and education. Builds the knowledge to prevent fire, react correctly, and carry out the fire marshal role with confidence.

Across in-depth modules you'll learn fire safety law and the Responsible Person, how fire and smoke behave, hazards and prevention, detection and means of escape, extinguishers and the PASS technique, the fire risk assessment, and the fire marshal's role in an evacuation — brought to life with branded diagrams, decision flowcharts, real workplace scenarios, a knowledge check after every module, and a downloadable Quick Reference to keep.

Finish with a scenario-based final assessment (80% to pass, unlimited attempts, every answer explained) and earn your Certificate of Completion.

Please note: this course builds essential knowledge; hands-on extinguisher practice and your premises' specific evacuation plan should also be rehearsed on site.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the certificate valid and when should I refresh?
There is no fixed legal expiry for a certificate of completion, but fire safety knowledge is commonly refreshed every year, and fire marshal training is often renewed every one to two years. Check your employer's policy and refresh sooner if your role, premises or fire procedures change.
Who is this course for?
It suits anyone with fire safety responsibilities and staff appointed as fire marshals or wardens, across offices, shops, warehouses, factories, care, hospitality and education. It is also useful for managers and business owners who need to understand fire safety law and the Responsible Person duties.
Is this course accredited or officially recognised?
No. Pivotal University has no external accreditation, so this is CPD-aligned awareness-level training with a certificate of completion, not a regulated qualification. It builds essential knowledge but does not replace your premises' specific evacuation plan or hands-on extinguisher practice, which should also be rehearsed on site.
How long does the course take?
There is around 10 hours and 4 minutes of content across 41 lessons. Because it is self-paced, you can work through it in one go or spread it over several sessions, and your progress is saved as you go.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. When you complete the modules and pass the final assessment (80% to pass, with unlimited attempts and every answer explained), you earn a Certificate of Completion. You can download it and add it to your CV or LinkedIn profile.
Is it self-paced, and are there any prerequisites?
Yes. Every course is fully online and self-paced with lifetime access, so you can start anytime and learn at your own pace on any device. There are no prerequisites unless the course says otherwise.
