Start & Scale Your Business is a practical, no-fluff mini-MBA for anyone who wants to start something real and grow it — aspiring founders still in a day job, side-hustlers ready to go full-time, freelancers professionalising into a proper business, and early-stage SMB owners who have been winging it and want a system. Across eleven focused modules it takes you from the very first question — "is this idea actually worth building?" — all the way through to planning a credible exit, in plain English and grounded in UK reality.
You will learn how to pressure-test a business idea against a real market before spending money on it; choose a business model and pricing that genuinely makes money; write a one-page plan and set milestones you will actually use; set your business up correctly in the UK (sole trader versus limited company, Companies House, HMRC, VAT, bank and insurance); read your own numbers — cash flow, runway and margin — without an accountant translating; pick the right funding route for your stage; win your first customers through marketing and founder-led sales; and build the systems and first hires that let you step back.
The later modules tackle what changes as you grow: how to scale without breaking the unit economics or the culture that made you good, how to avoid the traps that kill businesses precisely because they succeeded, and how to protect your own resilience through a long, non-linear founder journey. You will finish able to recognise the common failure modes early, build a business that runs without you, and plan an exit that works for your life — not just the headline number.
Honest scope note: this is practical business education, not regulated financial, legal, accounting or tax advice. UK rules, thresholds and reliefs change frequently, and your specific situation has nuances a course cannot see — treat every figure here as "check the current position" and get a qualified accountant and, where it matters, a solicitor before you act on anything with money or legal consequences. The course finishes with a scenario-based final assessment (80% to pass, unlimited attempts, every answer explained) and a Certificate of Completion.
